There's recycled and recycled... | ||||||||||||

It's great news that a few more recycled cards are creeping into the market place. But do they really live up to their claims? Often it's impossible to tell.
What to look out for The important aspect is the amount of 'post-consumer' waste that has gone into the card. This relates to the paper that has been used and collected by the usual kerbside council collections or paper banks. Had it not been collected and used this paper would have gone into landfill. Obviously, the higher the post-consumer waste content, the better. There's also paper waste that does not leave the paper mills and that can be re-pulped into paper. Our cards have a small percentage of that to give them their smart appearance. Other 'recycled' cards use mill waste or mix it with virgin pulp. In our view that is not good enough. Raising standards At the Green Card Company our standards are high and we are very clear about the content of our cards. We are proud that our cards can carry the NAPM (National Association of Paper Merchants) logo because of their high post-consumer waste content. We feel all cards and stationery should be explicit about their recycled content so that consumers can make informed choices about exactly what they are buying. If you are interested in more info on the subject check our Why recycled? and Technical information. |
